Locust Grove was established in 1893. The name came from a grove of locust trees that were scattered throughout the town. During the early years of the city’s establishment, it was a major rail distribution center for cotton, peaches and other farm products. The city had three cotton gins, several warehouses, and its first store was built and open on Main Street in 1870 – not too far from where our office is located!
Locust Grove has grown tremendously in the last 20 years. Since the early 2000s it has expanded its limits from 2.2 square miles to 10.8 miles, growing in each direction. The City of Locust Grove is located along I-75 at Exit 212 (Bill Gardner Parkway), with access to State Route 42 (US Highway 23) and other major roads connecting the city to Atlanta, Macon, Griffin, Jackson and other areas of Henry County. The city is located about 35 miles southeast of downtown Atlanta and about 30 miles from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, the world’s busiest airport.
As the city continued to grow, Strawn & Co., Insurance saw an opportunity to grow its business within a city full of charm and an amazing community of people that Chris Ragan was ready to serve!
